Update on Anthony

As most of you know, Anthony is progressing well and is now out of ICU and into a private ward where he will be suitably looked after. If you are thinking of visiting next week, please ask Kerry first beforehand to check if it’s OK.   Anthony will be having surgery on his shoulder to plate it tomorrow and hopefully will be home in a couple of weeks or so.   Unfortunately, just got to wait for those bones to mend.

This week’s results

Congratulations once again to George Tragaris who won D grade easily.  Perhaps next time you could get out of the saddle on the sprint just to make the others feel better.    I think George’s days are numbered in D grade and he may have to venture up to C.

The C grade race was really exciting – Steam had 4 participants (Pete Galvin, Greg Sutherland, Marco ‘Petacchi’ Corrent and Muir Mathieson).    It had everything – Pete going off the front, Marco breaking 4 spokes and having to run across the paddock a la Lance and George very generously lending his front wheel so that Marco could go on to get 5th overall.    There was a bit of a stiff talking to after the race from the injured coach on the sidelines regarding the tactics (or lack thereof).   However, Steam ended up with 5th (Marco), 6th (Pete – who did too much work on the front !), 8th Greg (who blew himself up halfway through chasing down the wrong break) and Muir finished very respectably in the bunch.    I can highly recommend coming out and watching the racing at Heffron on Sat afternoons.  C grade starts at 3pm and it was very exciting.

BRW corporate triathlon

Congratulations to all those who raced in the BRW last weekend – please send me your results so that I can put them in the next Steam update.

Warren Lee’s MTB extravaganza

Quick update from our fearless MTB correspondent in the wilds of South Australia – a full tour report next week when he makes it to the end.

“4 days in and we have travelled 300 kms. We are currently on a rest day in Burra.

This off road stuff is pretty tough. We are averaging about 16-17 kph meaning the average 80 km day is 5 hours riding, and the longest day will be 8 ish.

There is nothing too "technical" (as the mountain bike folks put it-which is lucky as "technical" generally means I will fall off, or have to walk, or both).

And speaking of the mountain bike folks, they are a strange lot. They don't shave their legs, but they don't shave their faces either so I guess its fair. In fact, I havnt seen so much facial hair since the east german womens swimming team.”

Stay tuned for the next update …..

Dazza’s Double

Remember Darryl is out there riding around the Park as I write …. He needs riders for support whenever you can get out there especially in this damp weather.   So find some time to support this very worthy cause.  He will be riding until 5pm tomorrow so plenty of time for a hour or so to help out.

This weekend’s riding

Saturday – there will be crit experience and a steady Eastern Suburbs ride – both leaving the coffee van at 6:45am.   Back in the park after approx 50-60kms at 9am.

Sunday – The faster ride will be going to Stanwell tops (120km) leaving from the coffee van in the park at 6:15am.   There will be a steady ride to Stanwell tops as well leaving at the same time captained by Rod.

Weekly training bunches

Steam have 3 bunches riding on Tuesday and Thursday mornings catering for all levels of rider.   Recently, the riding has become quite uneven mostly due to riders seeding themselves rather than listening to the coaches.   Just some common sense rules apply :-

Having to cater for different levels of riders within the same group is dangerous – some people will be riding at max and others not.   It is also unfair to those that train consistently to have to slow down for those that only come occasionally.   And, under no circumstances, does anyone slot themselves into the top group unless directed to by a coach – especially if you haven’t been riding for a while.   It is important to get cohesion and the same skill levels in a group – this avoids accidents.   Remember your mistake can cause others a lot of grief and pain.   If you have any queries about this policy please see your coach or Daniele – we are more than happy to talk to you about this.

Safety comes first – and a good ride for everyone.
