Ciao but not goodbye ..... to Shawn Burgess
This week (in fact this morning's ride) will be the last time we will see Shawn for some time as he's off to New York for a 2 year stint for the Reserve Bank.    Luckily for us, NYC is quite flat so hopefully Shawn will lose his climbing legs by the time he comes back.   Shawn will be sending us his new details for the Steam New York chapter and I'm sure would welcome any visitors from Down Under.
Good luck in your new job Shawn and with all your training .... we look forward to seeing you back in a couple of years.

Heffron
Steam had a large contingent at Heffron on the weekend with 9 of our racing team taking part.  Leica Ison, Keith White and Gary Leahy were all newcomers to the crit circuit and Keith White took 2nd at E grade for his first outing.  I amazed myself, onlookers and fellow racers by not only taking part in the D grade sprint but actually beating someone else to the line for 4th spot - which is my best ever result in a Heffron crit.  Perhaps eventually in a couple of years I can actually edge one more place and get a podium finish !!
C grade was very exciting with our seasoned racers, Muir and Marco "Petacchi" Corrent, sitting in the bunch with Marco strutting his stuff in the sprint to get 5th.   B grade was fast and furious and Daniele, Ben and Pete G worked together. However they were somewhat outnumbered as Randwick Botany and Sydney had a large contingent there who were working together.  Despite this, Ben led Daniele out to eventually claim 3rd in the sprint.   So Steam ended up with two podium finishes.   Thanks to our supporters, Leonard,  Danny and pooch and Dave Bowman who cheered all grades on unflaggingly.

Eastern Creek
The Steam train rolled on the following day with a 1st and 2nd at vets racing in B grade.  Congratulations to Michael Trinca for 1st in B grade and Roberto Vanolini for 2nd in A grade.  Therese Becker ventured out for her second ever crit in C grade and finished very creditably in the bunch.  Well done to all on the weekend's results.

Insurance

For anyone looking at insuring their bikes, there is great insurance cover included with your home contents through www.cyclecover.com.au – for the same amount as I was paying the NRMA for home contents insurance I have insured the same home contents plus 4 named bikes which are now covered in the house and anywhere in Australia and New Zealand plus 90 days overseas.     Worth looking at if you are keen on insuring those expensive speed weapons.
