Walk Against Want http://www.oxfam.org.au/walk

I am writing on behalf of Oxfam Community Aid Abroad to invite you and your group to participate in our annual Walk Against Want event which will be held on Sunday March 13, 2005. The Sydney walk will commence at 10am at Victoria Park. Participants can choose one of two routes to take - either a 5km walk through Glebe or a 15km walk, which proceeds through Glebe, Pyrmont, Darling Harbour and back to Victoria Park.

As you may be aware, Oxfam Community Aid Abroad is a non-profit, secular, community linked development organisation. The "Walk Against Want" is our major national fundraising event and has been taking place for 38 years. The Walk symbolises the long walk that women in developing countries make to collect water. For the event people across Australia get sponsored by friends and family to take part in walks that are held in various locations throughout the country. The money raised from the Walk goes to aid the alleviation of poverty and promote social justice through community based projects in long-term programs in over 30 countries, including Indigenous Australia.

As well as being a fun event and raising funds for Oxfam Community Aid Abroad the walk could be a good way of promoting your organisation as your group can wear T-shirts promoting your club while they are walking. Also any individual or group that raises $200 in this year’s walk and banks it before April 30, 2005 will be entered in a draw to win a Spirit of Vietnam trip for two people with Intrepid Travel.

If you would like any further information or would like a registration pack mailed to you I can be contacted via the Sydney Oxfam Community Aid Abroad office on 8204 3906 or on volwaw@sydney.caa.org.au.

Thank you for your time, Kind regards, Roz Sutton
