Cessnock ride

Well done to all those who rode the 182kms to Cessnock last Saturday (I don’t know why it keeps getting longer and longer as Cessnock doesn’t seem to have moved) on a very hot day.   A speedy recovery to Col Harris who unfortunately acquainted himself with the ground a little too closely but I hear is recovering fast with a lot of assistance.   And thanks to Mark and the boys from Peloton Sports who towed the bunch for 182kms at a 33km average (well for me anyway perhaps faster for others).   Perhaps the ride next year will be over 200kms as Cessnock appears to be on some sort of fault line which means it moves further from Sydney every year.

Sydney Marathon, Half Marathon and 9km

Congratulations to all who competed at the weekend. Full results will be available next week. Phil Thomson de Zylva turned in a 3:38 marathon. Phil was on track following the 3:30 pace balloon, but the increasing heat started to take its toll, resulting in cramps and much cursing of the final "monster" hill near the finish - good effort on a tough course.

Weekend riding

Saturday : 6:45am from the caravan and two ride options.   Some faster race type training at the container terminals for those that want some speed work – approx 60kms and back in the park by 9am latest.   And Rod will be taking a cruisier ride back in the park by 9am.

Sunday : 6:15am from the caravan.  Two bunches both going to Waterfall and back (90km) with a slightly different average speed.

 Committee

Looking for two people out of our 150 odd membership to stand as general committee members from Sept 2005 to Sept 2006.   We generally have 4 committee meetings a year to discuss various issues with the club and organise activities.   You will be required to donate a little bit of time and action any activities that you volunteer to help with.   We also have a bit of fun and usually manage to get through a couple of bottles of bubbly as well.

New committee will start after the AGM this year on 9th October.     Please email Anna on ciclismo@tpg.com.au or Rob Gorman on r.Gorman@unsw.edu.au if you have some time and energy this year to spare for your cycling and triathlon club.

Annual General Meeting reminder

The AGM is on again on Sunday 9th October in the afternoon.   At this meeting we will vote for office bearers for 2005-6, review the last year of STEAM and discuss any agenda items. Please send in you nominations for the committee positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and other general members (currently 4, see above). Also send any items to include on the agenda.

Fire sale of old old clothing

There will be a fire sale of the really old clothing (as in circa 1999) before we move and chuck the whole lot out.  All clothing brand new.  $5 a pop for anything that you can find that will fit you or someone else or that you can make use of.   After Sunday’s ride and coffee at the magic boutique garage – entry in Ashton St.   Also some free books available too for anyone interested.
