Pilates For Steam

I have managed to secure a really good Pilates instructor who will do a casual class for Steam members on a Saturday morning specifically to strengthen your core for cycling and running.   A lot of people have indicated interest in this, so if you could let me know if you want to attend at ciclismo@tpg.com.au then I can organise a class or a series of classes if that is what everyone wants.

Stretch & Strengthen your entire body

         Firm your abdominals

         Create Long, Lean, Toned muscles

Pilates is a mind-body fitness program that not only helps you create your best body ever, it also helps you feel mentally & emotionally Balanced, Calm & Refreshed.

When: Saturday 10am after training session in Centennial Park

         Cost: $22

What you need: exercise mat and towel

         Bookings are essential

Please see attached information sheet about the instructor.  I can highly recommend her having attended her classes on Saturday afternoons for the last year or so.

Anna

STEAM T-Shirts

All 2006 members can pick up a stylish STEAM T-shirt from Anna on Saturday morning at the caravan after training (9AM), some other pre-arranged time (ciclismo@tpg.com.au) or at the latest on Tuesday morning after training (7AM). Please try to organise to pick them up as Anna and Daniele are moving on Tuesday and there is only so much STEAM clothing you can carry on the back of a Ducati.

Weekend rides

SATURDAY 15th OCT 6.45am MEETING AT THE CARAVAN riding out to the container terminal for some Criterium Experience total dist 50-60kms  back by 9am

SUNDAY 16TH OCT 6:15am from the caravan. Ride to Stanwell Tops (120km) back in the park by 10:30am.   The steadier group will probably also have a option to turn at Waterfall (90km).

Advance warning !!!!

Steam Christmas weekend is in the planning phase.   We have going to run the Hamill cup on Sat 17th December at the Botany container terminals.  The handicapping is going to be very competitive so start picking your teams now.   Teams must contain at least 1 female and ages must add up to 125 otherwise stiff time penalties will be incurred.   There will be time bonuses for ages that are more than 125.   Start training in your teams now for the 7 lap TTT of the container terminals.

We will have our Christmas ride on Sunday 18th December followed by our usual champagne and muffins at the coffee van afterwards and then the Steam Christmas party in the afternoon with fun and games and awards for all.

Put these dates in your diary.

Coaches Corner
So when you get home from a ride do you just park your bike & don’t check it before your next ride?? If you’ve had a mechanical problem on your last ride get it checked by your local bike shop before you attempt riding it again because it could be dangerous or prevent you form completing your next ride .There is nothing worse than being stranded out on the road because of a mechanical problem that you could have avoided had you had it checked out.

QUICK BIKE CHECK LIST

1. TYRE PRESSURES 110PSI

2. TYRE WEAR

3. DOES YOUR CHAIN NEED OIL?

4. CHECK YOUR CLEATS ON YOUR BIKE SHOES AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK FOR SCREW TIGHTNESS & WEAR.

5. DO YOU HAVE A SPARE TUBE ON YOUR BIKE I NORMALLY CARRY TWO ONE ON MY BIKE & ONE IN MY POCKET

6. BRAKE PAD WEAR KEEP A WEEKLY CHECK ON WEAR SPECIALLY IF YOU’VE DONE A LOT OF WET WEATHER RIDING.

7. BOTTLE CAGE SCREWS FOR TIGHTNESS & CRACKS

STAY IN LANE

Remember when riding in a group & taking off from a stand still it’s important to stay in the lane you’ve stopped in. Reason is there may be traffic approaching fast on either side of the group & are not expecting any riders moving into there lane’s .This happens mainly when your taking off from a set of lights & your trying to cleat in & a rider in front of you has had trouble cleating in you may be forced to move to the out side of the rider please try & stay in the lane but if you can’t make sure you glance over you shoulder so it is clear to move over or give the rider a chance to cleat in before overtaking them.

Also best of luck to all competing in the Round the Bay in Melbourne David Bowman , Allan Marks, Andrew Caie , Warren Lee ,Wayne Mccarthy ,hope I haven’t forgotten anyone & also Muir Mathieson competing in the Australian Master Track Championship this weekend.

Check you bike e ciao

TRINSW IS LOOKING FOR GOOD PEOPLE!
With the strongest committee in many years, and much to do for our members, (that's you!), TriNSW is looking for some good people! Read on!

Casual office vacancy:
A casual employment position has arisen at TNSW to carry out the key Executive Officer functions while the Executive Officer (Cris Ashcroft) is on leave from time to time.

The two (2) forthcoming leave periods are from 7 to 26 October 2005 inclusive and then 11 to 28 November 2005 inclusive.

TNSW wants to offer its members the first opportunity to fill this casual employment position.  Expressions of interest are therefore sought from appropriately qualified and interested members.

Further details about the role can be obtained from the Secretary (Peter Coulson) through email address:
peter.coulson@asx.com.au

Assistant Web Master/Mistress:
Last year we also called for volunteer help to assist Mike Bundy with the main website; and due to some lost emails we've misplaced the respondents so if they'd like to re-submit, as we're looking to find an assistant web master also. The task is to learn the web system and assist the committee by loading pertinent information across the comprehensive website at www.trinsw.org.au

TriNSW Race Team:
In the coming weeks TriNSW will finalise and confirm all dates for TriNSW events, including the TriNSW Kurnell Sprint Series, TriNSW All Women's BIG Day Out and the TriNSW Club Championships, plus we're planning the TriNSW State Championship Series, the ITU U23 Oceania Championships and we're working on some exciting new projects.

As part of a mentoring system designed to bring new blood into the racing organisation within NSW, we're looking for members who'd like to get more involved in the TriNSW race program across the 2005/2006 season as volunteers in the following areas:

Volunteer Coordinator
Logistics Coordinator
Aid Station Coordinator
Race Equipment Coordinator
Media & PR Coordinator
Community Liaison
VIP & Function Coodinator
Transition Coordinators (4)
Sponsor Liaison
Swim, Bike and Run Course Managers

You'll be working with experienced operators such as our Race Manager, Nick Munting and the Race Crew/team led by Vinni Sedgewick and Phil Bates.

We're also looking for some one in the car trade who may be able to provide a striking lead car for the events (set in the Cronulla, Penrith and Port Stephen's areas initially)

And TriNSW is also moving ahead on a broad range of sponsorships so if your firm/corporation/industry has a marketing department that would look at triathlon as part of their marketing mix, we'd be ever so keen to talk with them!

All enquiries for the above can be directed to
nick@trinswrace.org
