Best Wishes from Steam to Atagun Bensan

In a desperate bid to get out of this year’s Grafton-Inverell race, Atagun was the subject of an extremely bad tackle in his local soccer comp on Saturday afternoon which is proof that soccer is far more dangerous than cycling.   Atagun has a split tibia which involves a bone graft from the hip and a few plates and screws to screw it back onto the knee.   At the moment he is at the Royal North Shore Private awaiting surgery and will probably be out at the weekend.   He will then be pretty immobile for a couple of months   So all best wishes to Atagun and more news to follow.

Steam TTT BBQ

There will be a BBQ on Sunday August 15th in the afternoon after the team time trial for all Steam members involved (regardless of which club they were racing for) at 6/67 York Road, Queens Park (opposite York Road gates).    Probably starting from about 4pm (ish) after everyone has finished up racing at Calga and hopefully attending the presentation ceremonies (we can hope anyway !).    Please let Anna know if you can attend – all welcome even if you only drop in to discuss the race for half an hour or so.  A chance to discuss next year’s tactics with your team members and to take feedback from the supporters as to how we should have done it.   Anna Murray  ciclismo@tpg.com.au

King of the Mountain and Oxfam Trailwalker

Team "Carlton Draught Big Canoes" - Bianca van Woesik, Stuart Webster, John Murphy, and Phil Thomson de Zylva  completed the famous race up and down Mt Scanzi as a training run of 32km at Nowra on Sunday 11th July, after a 2:15 training run on the Saturday. Despite this, the team still managed to pull together and lead out Bianca to beat a presumptuous female hanger-on who attacked the Big Canoes at the last drink stop after she was sitting on for half the race. The final places were 36,37,38 and 40, respectively (Phil sensibly decided not to participate in the final sprint) in a time of 2:41:19. Look out for the Big Canoes at Oxfam 100km Trailwalker in a few of weeks (team 401 http://www.oxfam.org.au/trailwalker/sydney/index.html). There are a few other teams from STEAM at the trailwalker: 146 - "We Are Thai" - Julie Avakian, Michael Avakian, Anne Newman, Malcolm Henderson; and 252 "O'Connor", Tom O'Connor, Paula Wylie, Jonathon Revitt and Robert Middledorp. You can help Oxfam by donating money in the name of one these teams by going to the website above. Any other STEAM teams - let me know?
