Cootamundra to Gunnedah

G7 team: Kate Everett, Breeda Kelly, Julie Howard, Michael Avakian, Julie Avakian, Meg Croft, Amber Jenkins.

"Armed with Polatec 300's and beanies befitting the west we went for a new record to fit the "G7" team and supporter + 7 bikes & gear into a Tarargo van with a last minute designed bike trailer. After an incredibly squished trip of 7 hours we were in fine form to contest the 105km race from Cootamundra to Gunnedah encompassing 150 enormous rolling hills.

In the race, life lasting alliances were formed within handicap groups but inevitably those speedsters from behind caught each group and the usual survival of the fittest eliminated most. Of course there was high drama with flat tyres, dropped gear and train (choo choo variety) stoppages which all combined for loads of fun.

Little did the G7 Groupo know, but more entertainment in the form of the English Amateur League Football team was in store at our own Motel! With fights, cussing, bashed doors and broken windows and then the police disco lights our day was complete! Imagine our disappointment to be faced with a very wet dreary Sunday and the G7 withdrawal from the day's racing in favour of Tamworth sightseeing and coffee testing. The trip home contained even more hilarity but the Maitland NRMA man can tell that tale."

Sunday at Cellini's

A big thanks to Daniele for getting the biggest turnout yet to a Steam do and for organising Carlo at Cellini’s to provide a splendid feast for just $30.    The evening was enjoyed by all and Bruce Propert and John Leech organised the presentation to give everyone a little taster of cycling round Italy – once again thanks to Bruce and John for not only taking so many photos but actually organising them all and putting them into the presentation.  John is available for Powerpoint presentation skills courses - while on holiday and drinking lots of wine.  Steam also want to thank our sponsors and guests for providing the lucky door prizes – Zoo, Turramurra Cyclery and Pino’s Italia Spring Tours.   The prizes appeared to be appreciated by all recipients except Colin who wanted to win the car – unfortunately we haven’t managed to secure Maserati as sponsors yet – but had to make do with an extremely useful spare tube.  I gather quite a lot of wine was drunk by some and shame on those who declined the grappa – you haven’t had a true Italian experience until you cleanse your palate and it does seem to get rid of all known germs.    Watch this space for the next Steam social night ……
