CRITERIUM EXPERIENCE
This Saturday 28th of August we will start our next phase in cycle race training, we will In the next few weeks go though everything that can happen during a cycle race whether it’s in enclosed circuit or road race. Criterium circuits are normally short races run around the same track for a specific time like 40 minutes + 2 laps say, they are also the best type of racing because you get used to the road & the corners, now all you have to do is out fox your competition. So I will take everyone though all the strategies in the next few weeks. Now starting this weekend we will experience this but remember it is training & not racing.

Research Volunteers Wanted

Dr. Mike Trenell DEPARTMENT OF NEUROGENETICS Research Fellow Clinic 4 Royal North Shore Hospital

We are currently performing research looking at the effect of glycaemic index foods on running performance. Preliminary studies have suggested that the type of carbohydrate eaten after training can significantly influence subsequent training/performance. We hope that this research project will not only provide an insight into sports nutrition, but also information about how your body deals with carbohydrates. This may hold further implications for diseases such as diabetes and obesity. We are looking for 10 elite male athletes, aged between 18-40 to take part in our next study looking at glycaemic index foods and running performance. The study involves performing 6 runs over a 4 week period;

• One 20 minute VO2max test

• One 45 minute treadmill run

• Four 90minute treadmill runs on 4 different days

Two of the 90 minute runs will require blood to be taken. We will also look at the amount of fat that your muscles burn using an MRI machine (magnetic resonance imaging). All of the runs will be performed at the Royal North Shore Hospital.  You will be given food, dietary advice, and feedback from all of the tests. If you require any further information or would like to talk to me, feel free to give me a call on 9926-6164 (lab), 0401-062-752 (mob) of email me on m.trenell@mmb.usyd.edu.au
