AGM

Thanks to all who attended the AGM on Sunday. Anna outlined the club's achievements for the year and Lisa the clubs's fortunes and nominations for this years committee were confirmed (minutes to come soon). The Alex Hamill trophy for the STEAM team time trial was also awarded to Adam Radford on behalf of his teammates, Alison Urquhart and Dave Pegley.

Once again Kerry and Tony provided a magnificent setting overlooking the harbour and their usual warm hospitality - thank you. After STEAM's prowess at rearranging Kerry's furniture, I understand that Kerry is planning another STEAM function that may include some painting! The AGM adjourned to the Watson's Bay Hotel and despite torrential rain we enjoyed food, drinks and the crooning of a lounge singer.

BOWRAL Ride 30-31 Oct

If you are interested in the Bowral Ride don't forget to email Rod at rodknutson@hotmail.com to get some accomodation as we already have about 20 riding. Rod will soon contact those going to get a deposit on the motel. We will ride south to Bulli for coffee then down Bulli Pass to Wollongong, then to Albion Park and up Macquarie Pass to Robertson for pies and more coffee, and then to Bowral ~ 160km total. We will stay the night in Bowral and the next day ride in the morning. We will have a van or car to support the ride down, so if anyone would like to drive the whole way or ride half/drive half please let us know. Rod has made a booking for the weekend at the Ivy Tudor Inn. The accomodation cost is roughly $120 per double room with the dinner for Sat night budgeted at about $50 per head.

Ride calendar for the next 2 months

This is the schedule of rides for the next 2 months which caters for those going to race at Lake Taupo at the end of November and also anyone doing the Melbourne Ride around the Bay in mid October.   Probably a good start for those wanting to do Grafton/Inverell Sept 2005 as well (224kms of torture).   For those not as interested in the longer kms there will be options to turn at Waterfall or take shorter options home.   Otherwise, come along for the odd one or two longer rides to improve your base kms for the crit season or Ironman triathlon season coming up.

Please note the return of the Individual Time Trial from the bottom of Waterfall hill up to the top of Audley (approx 25kms) on Sat 23rd October. It will be run in age groups.  This is open to all comers and I encourage everyone to come and have a go and race at their own pace against the clock.  There will be some prizes awarded at the Xmas party for best times/outfits/efforts. We will have more about this in a email nearer the time.

Also the Macquarie Pass ride is back on the long weekend on Monday 4th October.  We start from Kiama and do a very scenic loop stopping at the top of the Pass for a well earned coffee.  As you do the climb at your own pace, most levels of riders are catered for (possibly not one for absolute beginners). More about that in coming emails.  Please let ciclismo@tpg.com.au know if you intend to come on this ride.

Any questions or suggestions – email ciclismo@tpg.com.au – otherwise see you on the road.

DANIELE'S TECH TIPS

Training Consistently

Ever noticed how some riders always seem to be motivated to train?including myself What is the source of their inspiration? Sports psychologists have studied this for years. As an athlete you need to identify what motivates you and develop the sources of your motivation. The secret to your cycling success is your consistency of purpose in training, no matter what level you ride at. Here are a few popular methods to remain focused on your cycling: Goals One of the best sources of motivation is setting goals. Be specific and put them down on paper. Define your goals clearly and make them attainable. Short term goals need to be more clearly defined than long term ones. Set specific short term goals for training. Set long term goals such as training consistently for a month, or doing a specific race.... DO NOT STRESS WINNING when defining your goals. Instead, rather stress enjoying just being on the bike .The goal could just being trying to reach a further distance or faster average speed for example. Group Training Training with friends or a club and all the other social benefits of cycling are also great for motivation. This is what cycling clubs are all about. Group training is vastly more effective than individual training. The same intensity that can make individual training hard comes naturally in a good group. Regularity Regularity makes hard tasks easier. If you make it a point to ride regularly, or at least two or four times a week (to be competitive), making the regular ride will become automatic. Riding at the same time each training day can also be helpful but be careful not to become a slave to the schedule(like me your coach!)
